CHK Kosher No Longer Certifies Shor Habor Meats
The prestigious Shor Habor brand, known for its Lubavitch Shechita, along with other AgriStar beef and poultry products, will no longer carry the certification of CHK, as announced by the rabbis of the Crown Heights Beis Din. This decision was made due to ongoing kashrus challenges at the AgriStar plant, which led to a breakdown in the relationship between the plant management and the supervising rabbis.
In a public letter addressed to the Crown Heights Community, Rabbi Avraham Osdoba and Rabbi Yosef Braun, members of the Crown Heights Beis Din and its CHK certification, expressed their disappointment in having to withdraw their certification from the AgriStar plant. Despite their efforts to address kashrus concerns and implement necessary changes, the resistance and lack of cooperation from the plant management made it impossible to ensure compliance with kashrus protocols.
Specific issues, such as the deveining of animals and the accommodation of consumers who prefer Lubavitcher Shechita, were not addressed adequately by the AgriStar plant.
